I always thought it was a neat thing that the season of Lent and the celebration
of Easter fell in the physical seasons of winter and spring. The more somber aspect of Lent aptly coincides with the darker, colder days of winter where we don’t hear the singing of birds nor see the budding of trees or the blooming of flowers. Our senses are held captive to this time of reduced light and life, much like the Scriptures which often speak of the wilderness times … Jesus being tempted by the devil, praying in lonely places, having His mission misunderstood,
and ultimately, enduring the betrayal of friends, the punishment of a criminal, and a most torturous and painful death.
And just when we might convince ourselves that this is “all there is,” we being
to see the chubby robins coming out of hiding, the colorful heads of daffodils and
crocuses popping out of once dormant earth, the grass regaining its vibrant green
color, and of course, the hope and joy of Jesus conquering death by rolling away
the sepulchral stone! The garden visitor proclaims to Mary Magdalene and the
other women that “He is not here! He has been raised, just as He said ”Friends, though we still have to face the many challenges that are throws at us,
we now also have the assurance that we are not alone on this journey called
“Life.” The Savior promises to be by our sides, giving us all the love that our
hearts can hold. Come celebrate that this Easter!
In Christ, Pastor Lisa Borrell
